Managing our impact
A greener future for Browns
Distribution House was built with sustainability at its core. Powered by an 80kW rooftop solar PV system, the facility runs on clean energy day and night. It doesn’t just power the building - it keeps our entire electric forklift fleet moving, with any excess energy exported to the grid. Since opening, we’ve cut our warehouse energy use by 50%, proving that efficiency and sustainability can go hand in hand.
Our warehouse operations are now fully electric, following the introduction of a 100% electric forklift fleet. These have replaced all previous gas-powered models, removing heavy fossil fuels from our on-site infrastructure entirely. It’s a major step in reducing our carbon footprint while improving air quality and safety across the site.
Beyond the warehouse, our wider fleet supports our sustainability goals too. No Browns articulated vehicle is more than five years old, and all meet Euro 6 standards - allowing us to operate cleanly in low-emission zones. Regular investment in newer, more efficient vehicles helps us drive down emissions and maintain high operational performance.
We’re also supported by our network partner, Palletline, whose multi-hub model saves 4.5 million road miles every year. That’s equivalent to over 7.5k tonnes of CO₂ saved annually. With an EPC rating of A (6), Distribution House already outperforms similar new-build logistics sites and is firmly on track to become a net-zero CO₂ operating centre.
