  • it all began 1955
    Business started by Albert Brown trading as A. Brown Tunstall operating from premises at Connaught Street, Tunstall. He began by offering general haulage services for local pottery companies using a van. This quickly grew to larger 16 tonne vehicles as the business became known for its services in the area. Reputation is key and its something the business continues to take good care of.
  • a decade of success 1965
    After 10 successful years the business became a Limited company formed in February 1965 A BROWN (TUNSTALL) LIMITED. With business growth and sustainability at the core of the business, much like today. Albert Brown was determined to stay prevalent in the marketplace and leave a legacy for generations to come!
  • and still going strong 1975
    A BROWN (TUNSTALL) LIMITED celebrates its 20th Anniversary.
  • “we’re going to need a bigger boat” 1985
    To celebrate 30 years of success, A BROWN (TUNSTALL) LIMITED re-located to the present site at Ravensdale in order to service demand, 30 years of success means more space and more people. Georgia Robbins, Administration Manager joins the team to manage the front of house on the new site and is now our longest serving employee and an integral part of the Senior Management Team.
  • like father like son 1986
    Time for a change, in December, A BROWN (TUNSTALL) LIMITED became BROWNS OF STOKE LIMITED, when David Brown Senior, Son of Albert Brown, became Managing Director, pledging to do the same again for his sons when the right time came.
  • back for good 1989
    June sees a welcome return of Mick Stirzaker, Transport Manager to the Senior Management Team. Having joined the business in February 1982 and leaving to pursue a new role, Mick realised the grass is not always greener and has been with the business ever since!
  • re Brand 1993
    In August 1993 re-branded and changed its name to BROWNS DISTRIBUTION SERVICES LIMITED. Previously, the business had sited ‘Stoke’ symbolising its local heritage. Now it was time for the name to reflect the nationwide footprint following significant business growth.
  • making history 1995
    Marking 40 years BROWNS DISTRIBUTION SERVICES became a shareholding member of Palletline. Find out more about Palletline and how this trailblazing organisation developed a solution on the ever-changing landscape for hauliers revolutionising the palletised distribution industry forever.
  • the big 50 2005
    50 years and from strength to strength, half a century in business and no signs of slowing down. The Browns Distribution dynasty leading the way on the roadmap for success.
  • step up 2007
    March 2007 - David Brown Junior joined the Board of Directors. Having worked in all of the business’ various roles, David earned his stripes on the board, no easy ride for the boss’ son! Leading the business to commercial success, his early legacy has shaped very much the way we do business today.
  • Feather in the cap 2007
    Despite many awards affiliations through Palletline shareholding, being crowned winners of Staffordshire’s Training & Excellence award was by far the most rewarding. Browns Distribution are particularly proud to have been recognised locally for an award relating to our commitment to employees.
  • “a promise made is a promise delivered” 2011
    It’s the right time and David Brown Junior is appointed Managing Director with David Brown Senior moving into the Chairman role.
  • strength in numbers 2014
    David Grocott joins the Senior Management Team and is appointed Company Secretary & Group Management Accountant signalling a step change in the company growth success and plans for the future.
  • make a wish 2015
    For a big 60th Birthday present, May 2015 saw the first purchase of new Scania vehicles. Considered prestigious throughout the industry this momentous occasion is symbolic of how the business has and continues to develop.
  • make it bigger 2016
    Big year for awards and development. In August, work begins on the re-development of the site with the demolition of old buildings and David Brown Junior, scoops Sentinel Young Business Person of the Year, not to mention, Browns Distribution becomes a Motor Transport Haulier of the Year finalist!
  • make it better 2016
    The commercial team is strengthened, Laura Dono, General Manager – Commercial joins the senior management team taking the lead on business development and customer care, the Browns Distribution client portfolio expands, making way for service diversification.
  • make it work 2017
    January the New warehouse completed and operational. and Luke Cobden joins the senior management team taking responsibility for the Browns Distribution Warehouse Service broadening our range of expertise to include Pallet Storage, Pick and Pack, Fulfilment, Ecommerce, Container receipt and handling.
  • keep it happy 2017
    June marks the arrival of Mark Knapper, Driver Welfare & Training Manager to the Senior Management Team. His role demonstrating a fresh approach towards driver recruitment, training and retention.
  • make it last 2017
    July welcomes Paul Handley, Fleet Engineering Manager to the senior management team assuming leadership of the purpose-built onsite vehicle workshop, enabling the wheels of the business to keep in motion!

    The brand-new Website is Launched and plans for a new customer portal underway.
