Everyone at Browns and Palletline have been working around the clock to keep our customers business moving as best as possible. Our daily freight numbers drastically reduced and we have been working with minimal staff to ensure the least business disruption possible.
The last 4 weeks have seen our daily turnover holding, but as we move closer to lock down restrictions being lifted, large retailers opening back up and the economy seeing stimulation we now embark on a new challenge.
Our daily turnover is now rising, and, on some days we are seeing a huge spike in numbers, however we are still working with reduced staff numbers at present. As the freight volumes increase we will draft back staff from furlough leave, but we are asking our customers to please bear with us.
We will do our best to ensure we meet all freight requirements and we will match our customers demand. We are still encouraging customers to email into our business instead of calling as we are able to prioritise emails between departments.
We are now asking each of our customers to email us at email@example.com with the following information, which will help us maintain the correct infrastructure moving forward.
We need to know:
- Anticipated daily volume throughout May
- Anticipated increase in volume
- Operating restrictions we should be made aware of

The last few weeks have been a challenging period like we have never seen before. I am extremely proud that we have risen to the occasion as a valued service provider to the UK supply chain. I am profoundly honoured by the remarkable efforts you have all put in. I would like to extend my gratitude to each and every one of you.
We will continue to ensure the safety of our staff is paramount in everything we do. Alongside members of the public while delivering valuable freight across the UK. This will allow us to ensure the following weeks run as smoothly as practically possible.
This message is a simple one, but a humble and worthy one. That message is to just say "Thank You!" to all employees of Browns Distribution during this problematic period. Your unwavering support will be remembered and rightly recognised as we emerge from the situation we find ourselves in over the coming weeks and months.
I have been inundated with calls from our customers this week offering their thanks. It is important you are aware that you are recognised, as a lot of the time we are not.
I will continue to update you all as we maneuver through this period. Our greatest strength now is our ability to adapt to the ever changing environment we operate in.

Browns Distribution Services Ltd continue to support business and supply chain.
Last night the prime minister increased restrictions on all but essential business. As key workers we will remain steadfast in our duties to service your business and our economy.
- We do require your help at this point in time. We encourage all customers that intend to close to contact us as soon as possible. This will allow us to create an efficient and effective plan moving forward. We have already encountered issues of freight being refused as premises understandably close.
Our transport planners will continue to carefully manage all freight, ensuring it is collected and delivered. We will endeavour to meet our usual high standards to answer phone calls and emails as quickly as possible, however we are currently experiencing an elevated level of queries. We anticipate this additional workload will ease after today. We ask for your patience when phoning through to us during this busy period.
As expected workers within the transport industry have been included in key workers list by the government. We ask all members of staff to remain vigilant for any development of symptoms and report any concerns immediately. We all need to do everything we can to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Browns Distribution will do everything within it's power to ensure the safety of it's staff and customers.
Inline with a procedure update from the Alliance of Pallet Networks, paperwork will not be used by drivers during the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. Please see the 'Procedures Update - COP' for full details.
- Palletline network freight will be signed for on the PDA by the driver on the customers behalf.
- For general haulage the driver will sign a run sheet on behalf of the customer.
- If any paperwork is to be sent with the pallet, please ensure it is attached to the pallet. Drivers must not touch any paperwork.
Thank you for your cooperation. This update is to protect our incredible drivers as they continue to keep essential freight moving up and down the country.
Here at Browns we want to do everything possible to help businesses through the present situation. With that in mind we are encouraging businesses to contact us if they have essential goods for delivery. We wish to remove any roadblocks in getting goods that must be onsite, ontime to the correct location without issue. Our internal team will work with you to ensure this is achieved to keep the wheels turning on your business and our economy.
Additionally, it is looking ever more likely that we will become a temporary paperless network due to ongoing discussions with the Alliance of Pallet Networks and health ministers. This means we will likely soon not require any signature for delivery. We have already encountered this issue and are discussing with the network the best way forward. We will keep you posted as the plan develops.
Amazon yesterday restricted all but essential medical supplies and in-demand goods going into their fulfilment centres. It is currently not possible to create a delivery in seller central unless your product meets their demand criteria. As a preferred carrier for Amazon we will continue to monitor the unfolding events here closely.

This letter has been provided to the Road Haulage Association for onward distribution to all drivers and distribution centres.
There are no reported cases of the COVID-19 virus within our business. Should this change we will promptly switch to a plan that includes remote working and office segregation.
The Palletline network are holding daily calls with all depot principals across the network. Reports are being produced by 10.00am daily. We will be made aware very quickly if Palletline encounters any service related issues.
Effective immediately drivers do not need to pass hand held devices to the customer to request that they sign to confirm delivery. This amendment of procedure is inline with changes being carried out by the majority of parcel and pallet networks. It has been confirmed that insurance will not be affected by this change.
Browns Distribution Services Ltd is doing everything within it’s powers to limit the effects of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Our company continues to strive to maintain the high standards of service provided to our loyal customers.
Whilst we have put in place preventative measures to help to safeguard our employees, customers and the general public there is still the possibility that we may be affected by this ever-developing situation.
We will endeavour to provide our normal high levels of service, but please be aware that factors outside of our control may mean that delivery delays may arise in the future in some areas. Any delays in service will be communicated to you as they arise with delivery updates posted regularly.
