Browns Distribution has created 13 new jobs with its new warehouse facility
The company has now opened its new warehouse facility at its Tunstall head office. The investment now allows the firm to expand its current premises by 10% and recruit the new workers.
Standing at 30,000 Sqf, the new warehouse has allowed for an extra 6,636 pallet lockers and a state-of-the-art dock leveller, allowing for easy truck access and pallet stacking. With the new warehouse, Browns have also modernised their technology, enabling them to process client’s orders quicker and more efficiently.
Since expanding the warehouse, the firm has created 13 and that isn’t the only major expansion for Browns. Within the foreseeable future, the firm will be taking delivery of four new Topline Scania trucks and six Supper Qube Deker trailers.

Browns Distribution are happy to announce that David Brown Jnr was selected as Young Business Person of The Year at the Sentinel Business Awards on the 15th March. The accolade was awarded to David by the Sponsors, Stoke on Trent City Council. The award is open to entrants under the age of 40 and must be directly responsible for the success of their enterprise.
The event was held at The Kings Hall in Stoke on Trent with guest speaker Sarah Willingham who has recently appeared as a Dragon on Dragons Den.
The evening was a great success and it was very much noticeable that business in and around Staffordshire was on the up. The strapline for the night was “Local and Proud” and this was very much at the heart and mind of everyone who attended.

“The award demonstrates the commitment from the whole of the Browns Distribution Team as none of what we set out to do could have been achieved without each and every employees hard work and commitment. It has been a clear team effort and I’m very grateful we have been recognised.” Commented David.
David has been working in the business since leaving school at 17 and has been the Manging Director for the past 5 years. Whilst working in the motor vehicle workshop he went onto complete a Business Management Degree part time at Manchester Metropolitan University. His passion for customer service stretches out across the 100 strong workforce which he believes is very much integral to their success today.
What’s Next for Browns and the Team?
Browns Distribution now celebrating 60 years in business and with 20% year and year growth has some exciting plans for 2016. One of which is the expansion of their existing Warehousing and Storage facility. Browns are building a 30,000 sq ft warehouse on their existing site which will boast an additional 6600 pallet spaces in a state of the art facility. Browns currently store circa 10,000 pallets for clients and are at the forefront for storage and onward delivery. The new Warehouse will open in 2017.
Browns vigorously monitor KPI’s to ensure customer satisfaction and they believe their high service offering is key to their success. Soon Browns will be rolling out a new Online Job Portal which will offer users even more control of the delivery cycle. The system is currently in testing and they are hopeful to roll it out before Summer.
The current financial year sees turnover in the region of £10 million and still growing. Recently winning some prestigious contracts although still hugely committed to the entire customer base. Browns has a customer base of over 500 companies of which the majority are Staffordshire based.

Browns Distribution Services Ltd is proud to announce its 60th Anniversary.
For over a half a century, Browns has supplied a quality logistics service throughout the United Kingdom and across Europe. Founded in 1955 by the late Mr Albert Brown, the small business simply known as A. Brown, Tunstall, was the humble beginning of a legacy that has now spanned over three generations.
In 1970, after moving premise on a number of occasions, Albert Brown finally settled on its current location at Connaught Street, Tunstall, where it has remained for the next 45 years, flourishing into the award winning company it is today.
During 1993, with the inevitable rise of globalisation and the emergence of new technology such as the internet, it was decided that a fresh and generic name was needed to signify their presence in the rapidly evolving industry. After some consideration, Browns Distribution Services Ltd became the designated name that would represent the company in the approaching era.
A couple of years later, in 1995, Browns not only celebrated their 40th anniversary, but they also became a proud member of Palletline, the UK’s first palletised distribution delivery network which significantly expanded their operations, and securing their future at the forefront of palletised freight distribution.
Having been nominated for a variety of awards over the years and winning the 2012 Motor Transport Network of the Year Award, Browns has consistently proved itself as a front-runner in the distribution industry throughout the last 20 years.
Now celebrating 60 years of Moving Distribution Forward, Browns are more dedicated than ever to supplying their customers with a premier service for all freight consignments.
To demonstrate their commitment, they have recently added 4 new Scandia trucks to the fleet allowing for extra haulage, and on top of that, they have purchased 12 ClearDek trailers to optimise distribution. To provide a greener service, they have also included 2 additional Supercube trailers, economically designed to maximise cargo storage for carbon efficient distribution, reducing their impact on the environment, and saving customers money.
Not only have they expanded the fleet, but they have also augmented their centralised and fully secured warehousing and storage sector. Now holding excess of 10,000 pallets, their customers can monitor the age, level, and movement of stock within the warehouse complex, all through interactive, barcode regulated, IT system.
To ensure they supply a flawless and economic service, Browns day-to-day operations are governed by the most advanced IT system in the industry, allowing them to place orders rapidly, produce clear end-to-end audits, strategically plan distribution routes, and instantly create accurate invoices on delivery. They feel it is their responsibility to provide their customers with the highest quality, and therefore strive to ensure that they continue to lead with cutting edge technology for many anniversaries to come.
At the heart of Browns is their highly-trained and experienced staff. Having served on average for 6.5 years, of which 12 members for over 15 years – their staff are well versed in the distribution industry and exert themselves in each and every aspect of their day-to-day duties. He was a hard man but always spoke the truth and wouldn’t ask you to do anything that he wouldn’t do himself. I remember first thing in the morning he used to put on his red overalls and check everything was ok in the yard, pick up litter and manage the business from a hands on perspective. I really enjoyed working for Mr Brown during many happy years.’

Palletline are still experiencing a 20% increase in pallet volumes shipped. Our forecast shows this will continue to grow. Excitingly we have opened a further two Regional state of the art Hubs to manage this growth.
The two Hubs in Rugby and Leicester are purpose built premises which allow us cutting edge freight transfers whilst enjoying all of the IT benefits we have throughout the entire system.
Palletline currently has their main hub located in Birmingham whilst servicing large regional hubs in Scotland, Manchester, Rugby, Leicester and London.
Palletline have also launched Plus Logistics – The Power of Partnership. Plus has been created to rival the larger 3pl and 4pl providers and has already proved a great success by securing large contracts.
Plus have already secured large contracts, one of which is Tesco in the none food division.
Don’t forget that Palletline is also the main approved supplier of express palletised freight into all of the Amazon RDC’s.

Browns have recently created a new Customer Care Department whose main objective is to be the first point of call for our customers to ensure all queries are dealt with efficiently and effectively and that the communication of the delivery cycle is second to none.
We will soon be directing all inbound calls to Customer Care to ensure each enquiry is dealt with in the most appropriate manner. Of course if you want to speak with a member of the Operations Department you still have that option too.
Another responsibility which falls with the Customer Care Team is Customer KPI Reporting. A process which will allow us to send monthly service reports containing a rich array of account information. If you would like this report sending to a specific email address please can you reply to this email with the details.

Our new website allows us to better present information about our services in an easier format allowing our visitors to find information about our distribution services.
As well as having a new portal area, more detailed services page we now also have a careers page.
We are soon doing a photo shoot to showcase our 2014 cab and trailer livery which will be put on the website shortly.
